The House - Yard & Gardens - Lake - Pond
Like most formal houses, the first area with the circular drive is actually the back of the house. The front overlooks the main water feature, in this case the lake. Surrounding the house are little areas to stop and relax on a veranda. One is enclosed and serves as the informal dining area.
The back yard has an upper yard, a middle open area, then steps to the lower area and lake. There are tennis courts and plans for a pool in the distance. At the end of the main terrace is a pond with frogs. Just below it is the "black garden" where all the plants either produce black flowers, have black leaves, or accent either. Just below this along the tree line is a gazebo.
Checkout the Ayershire website for a full description.
The lake, while it looks natural, is not completely. It has drainage and recycling water. The waterfowl love it and are completely at home there.
Besides the wonderful sense of peace you get wandering around the yard, it the sense that it is very much a place of natural harmony. There are butterflys (see below), bees, frogs, spiders, etc all doing their thing. |
